Rohit Vats of Hindustan Times gave the film 2 stars out of 4, writing that “there is hardly any takeaway from Dil Dhadakne Do and its characters are not likely to stay with you for long”.[15] Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV also criticised the film, calling it “an overly caramelised and flaky dysfunctional family drama that strives – and fails – to strike a balance between the sly and the syrupy”.[16] In a 2½ star review, Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express wrote that the characters in the film “do not cut and bleed, just burble and weep, and some crucial sharpness goes missing”.[17] Shilpa Jamkhandikar of Reuters called it “Akhtar’s weakest film yet, because she tries to tell too many stories at once and tells none entirely”.
